These
photos are a small portion of a 35mm negative scanned at 4000dpi.
Because of the high scanning resolution, the photographic grain is evident
in these images. You can view the full frame on the
More Samples page. At this
scanning resolution, you could could make a print about 11" by 17" large
printed at 300 dpi.
Both photos shown below measure 305 x 504 pixels. For an objective quality comparison between the two, view and print both photos as you would use the photos we scan for you. At 300dpi, these photos will print to about 1" x 1 2/3". Can you see a difference? We don't, and will scan your images to JPEG format files unless you request otherwise. Most people find the High Quality JPEG format easier to work with, due to the average 80% file size reduction when compared to TIFF format files. (Please see the table on the About Scanning page). However, if you plan to edit many of your photos with a program like Adobe Photoshop through several cycles of opening and saving the image file, you may prefer the PNG or TIFF format. If we scan your photos to JPEG format, and you later decide you want to edit the image, we recommend that you use the edit program's ability to convert the image to PNG or TIFF (or other lossless image file format) and then edit the copy. Many browsers don't display TIFF format image files, but the PNG (Portable Network Graphic) format is designed for internet use. If you want to download the TIFF format sample image (size:452 KB) , right-click on this section of text, and select "save as" to save the photo to your computer for printing and viewing. |
