Our service is simple.  We scan your color or black and white 35mm slides and negatives or APS Cartridges to computer CD.  We will scan your film at resolutions up to 4000 dpi (dots per inch).  We have at your disposal a variety of image enhancement options to remove dust and scratch marks, to enhance the color of your film correcting (within limits) for fading or exposure, and to reduce the appearance of photographic grain.  You can choose the options that best suit your needs.

We realize that you may no longer have the original film for some of your most treasured photographs.  Upon request we will also scan photographs.

We send you the scanned images on Computer CD.  You have your choice of image formats:

  1. High Quality JPEG for high quality compressed images, with minimal loss of image detail.

  2. PNG, a newer network standard, for full image quality in a compressed file format.

  3. TIFF for full image quality in an uncompressed file format.

In addition to the high-quality images, we also place on the CD a Web Album for convenient viewing of your photos.  Along with the web album you receive a second copy of each photo - highly compressed JPEG versions of the images (approximately 800 x 570 pixels in size) suitable for e-mailing to friends.  Click Here to see a sample audio-enabled web album.

Our Recommendations

Not sure which options are best for you?  It all depends on how you want to use the scanned images.

bullet

Most family photos benefit from the automatic exposure and faded-film compensation that Digital ROC provides.  Unless your film is recently developed and well exposed, we recommend it.

bullet

Most family photos also benefit from the dust and scratch removal that Digital ICE provides, especially when the film is scanned at higher resolutions.   We recommend it except for black and white or Kodachrome films.

bullet

If your intent is to save high quality images that you can use to print enlargements, we recommend scanning at 2830 dpi.  Film shot with high quality photographic equipment may benefit from scanning at 4000 dpi.

bullet

If your wish is to view the images on a computer screen, and to be able to print standard-size prints, we recommend scanning at 1500 dpi.
